Georgia Loses to Vanderbilt

Georgia's defensive meltdown continued yesterday as Vanderbilt added to the impressive resume of Willie Martinez term as defensive coordinator. Vanderbilt won 24-22 on FG with 5 seconds left. It was their first win against us since 1994. It has become somewhat amusing watching our secondary look at each other while receivers are wide open. At this point our defense is incapable of stopping a pass offense.

I could analyze the game, but it's fairly simple. On offense we have no rhythm because we don't stick with one QB. I really admire Joe Tereshinki's heart, but he has no business playing QB for the Dawgs. Our receivers continue to play horrible. The two drops today lost the game. However our problems on defense mean we have little chance of winning against Florida or Auburn. The time has come to fire Martinez, when players are lost on the field, the coach is lost on the sidelines.

I agree with everything you've written here. We have the same caliber of defensive athletes as always. However, Van Gorder was outstanding at maximizing their physical abilities and coaching them up mentally. Martinez doesn't have a clue and is definitely in over his head as D Coord. Stafford needs to start for the rest of the season. 3rd Generation Joe T is a nice story but that's as far as it goes. None of our receivers has proven consistent at catching the ball. And while Richt has a great coaching record, he just doesn't seem to have the fire (at least publicly) to get this team motivated to play aggressively for 60 minutes. He should have been fuming mad after losing to Vandy but instead, he just took it in stride and said that they played better than us. When Vandy upset Tennessee last season, Coach Fulmer indicated that the team had hit rock bottom. If we're not at rock bottom yet, the only thing that could take us there would be an unthinkable loss to Mississippi State this Saturday.
